Dear United States of America,
I should have written this letter a long time ago – it is way overdue. Things got out of hand and I just watched as the damage was done. Of course, I was younger and didn’t realize the danger of your state; everything seemed normal from my point of view, for I was raised as you were falling. I wish others had written you before you destroyed yourself. If only more people had taken concern for your well-being.
In light of this, I would like to apologize for those who have come before me. On behalf of the ones that actively ruined you, I am sorry for their destructive behavior toward you; concerning those that did nothing to help keep you strong, I apologize for apathy and inactivity.
Please know that I’m not mad. I am, however, disappointed and heart-broken by your current form.
At the root of the problem is this: you have become selfish and concerned solely with gratification. It seems that all your issues are a result of these mindsets. Everything you do is done to bring pleasure to yourself; you care only for your own comfort and convenience. Ironically this inclination toward pleasure has brought you nothing but pain.
Now you are in a state of stress, obesity, financial uncertainty, relational dissonance, and emotional instability. As you pursued all of your own desires and comforts, you hurled yourself into an irreparable brokenness. I wish this wasn’t the case – I wish I could say everything was fine like you have lead yourself to believe, but I cannot. I simply cannot lie any longer; you are hurting, and you are destroyed.
The state of your morality is of utmost concern! I beg you to consider your spiritual status! America, you have completely turned away from the God that has bestowed blessing since your establishment. Be honest with yourself, “In God We Trust” can no longer be uttered on your lips.
The depravity present is unbelievable; you have given up the way of righteousness for a life of wickedness. You have exchanged the truth of God for a lie. You have traded wisdom for foolishness. You have chosen comfort and convenience over character.
At your hand, over 50 million babies have been killed through abortion. You have substituted natural, God-honoring relationships with the manifestations of your sinful lusts. You have allowed yourself to fall into addictions of every kind – affecting you emotional, physical, social, and financial conditions. Your youth are addicted to pornography, and your adulthood to adultery. Your media is full of disgrace, seemingly unfiltered messages no longer elicit even the slightest blush. Your attitude is proud as you claim to possess all wisdom (yet don't even realize the existence of wisdom's source). As you chase after your every whim, you slowly have become your own worst enemy – destroying your former honor and integrity!
America, please stop this madness!
I beg you to return to your prior state. Look to Jesus Christ for restoration and redemption. I know you are hurting, and I can see the pain in your eyes; don’t let yourself deteriorate any longer – return to God, your Father. He weeps over your present form (as you wallow and drown in agony), waiting with open arms for you to run back to Him. He has not forsaken you, though you have forsaken Him; the Lord longs for your salvation! He can’t stand to see you destroyed any further. He begs you to repent, and find peace in Him.
I too weep for you; I hate to see you writhe in pain as you are. I have not lost hope though. I still pray for your repentance and recovery – as I know for certain that you are not beyond the loving reach of the Lord.
