Happy New Year!
Tonight is the night. In just hours everyone will wait eagerly as the lights flash, the countdown starts, and the giant disco-ball-thing drops! The year of 2013 is just around the corner, and everyone is making their resolution lists; however, before we start looking toward the 12 months to come, let’s reflect on the year we just finished. What did we learn in 2012?
All Nicked Up is The Best Blog on the Internet
If you disagree, don’t tell me – I would rather live in my delusion.
I’ll be honest – my expectations for the movie industry over the past few years have been at a record low; however, 2012 was a year of redemption! Thankfully movies like The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, Brave, Les Misérables, Skyfall, The Hobbit, Lincoln, and Argo restored some hope to cinema-goers around the country! In addition, a number of new TV shows (Revolution, Go On, Hatfields & McCoys, and so on) surprised us with interesting plots and actual acting!
Seriously? Fifty Shades of Grey. What is wrong with you America?
We had an election in November – I know it’s hard to remember, since (basically) nothing changed. In essence, we can look forward to more of the same: a never ending downward spiral of deterioration as nothing happens between Congress and Administration.
The Olympics Rock
I don’t know about you, but I thoroughly enjoyed the London Olympics of 2012! Not only did the host nation do an excellent job of staging the event, but the athletes performed at an astounding level of competition. Metals were won, records shattered, and minds blown as the world watched in awe. In fact, these Olympics were so impressive, that the hype surrounding Rio 2016 is nearly incomparable to any previous Olympiad.
Pop Culture Always Catches Us Off-Guard
Pop Culture Always Catches Us Off-Guard
Did anyone see Gangnam Style coming? I sure didn’t. What about the sound-barrier-breaking jump from space? Me neither.
Surprise! We’re all still alive, as December 21st disappears in our rear view mirrors. I wonder what all those people who bought underground bunkers, never ending supplies of freeze-dried veggies, and warehouses full of firearms are going to do with all of their leftover stuff? Did this thought ever occur to History Channel or paranoid “preparers”: maybe the Mayans stopped making the calendar because they were working 1200 years into the future?
Apple Could Sell Anything
A large smartphone, or a small tablet? Neither. It’s the iPad Mini!
Tragedy & Evil Still Exist
Hurricane Sandy. The Dark Knight shooting in Aurora, Colorado. Sandy Hook Elementary School. Middle Eastern unrest and chaos. Unfortunately, life on this Earth is full of pain and horror; thank God that we have been offered salvation and redemption in Jesus Christ – and that, in Him and by Him, eternity will be without tragedy, and full of joy. For now, the victims of these terrible events will remain in our prayers, as we grieve with them and for them.
I’m The Luckiest Man on the Planet
As of August, I am engaged to the most beautiful woman in the history of mankind, to be married on June 15, 2013. That’s right – I get to marry Kelly Marie Bryant next year (and I am more excited than I can explain)! This also proves that there is hope for all men; if I could find a gorgeous, funny, smart, faithful, strong, loving, righteous woman – so can you!
As we look back, it becomes obvious that 2012 was an unforgettable year. Now, as we move forward, I encourage you to make the most of the coming months; if you do, I promise that 2013 will be even more spectacular than 2012!
